History

Citizens' Environmental Coalition is New York’s leading environmental health organization. CEC was founded in 1983 by community leaders organizing to clean up toxic sites. Today, CEC has grown into a coalition of over 100 community, labor, health and environmental groups and thousands of individual members.  CEC brings the grassroots to the statehouse, working with citizens across the state to create safe and healthy communities. CEC coordinates an Alliance for a Toxic Free Future with over 70 groups that are working to prevent harm from toxic chemicals by promoting green market shifts and reforming government policies.

Others Say:

-Shawn Lessord

“I am particularly impressed by your efforts to empower, educate and assist individuals at the local level who are concerned about environmental issues. I hope that your efforts to build coalitions and develop grass roots support will serve as a model for citizen activism”.
-U.S. Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton

“CEC has stood up to powerful corporations and uncaring politicians to demand and win genuine toxic chemical cleanups and real pollution prevention on the state and local level.”

CEC'S Board of Directors

CEC's Board members are people who represent member groups and have worked with the organization on local or statewide campaigns.
